Art Dubai Digital 2024: Expansion | Diffusion

Almost one hundred years ago, Edwin Hubble, working at the Carnegie Observatories in Pasadena, California, measured the redshifts of a number of distant galaxies and discovered that the universe was in expansion.

In the same spirit of research and exploration, Alfredo Cramerotti and Auronda Scalera, the curators of Art Dubai Digital 2024 measured the temperature of artistic practices around the world, spanning geographies, time zones and formats. As a result, they will present an expanded vision of what it is, may be, will be the field of contemporary art in the years to come.

Their effort has not been undertaken through a telescope but via what they call the field of art + advanced technologies aka AxAT, that is, technical innovation through the lens of contemporary art; and vice-versa. Undertaking a relentless investigation of what artists, creatives, technologists and producers of culture are up to now, Art Dubai Digital 2024 will present and, to some extent, predict what are the new themes, trends, names and formats in the new ecosystem shaped by art, communication and technology.

Artists, galleries, dealers, marketplaces, institutions, collections and tech partnerships currently shaping the future of art to come will be presented in a highly-curated and seamlessly designed pavilion for digital art, navigating these frontiers through the presentation of digital video, the world of NFTs, the immersive landscapes of Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR) and Extended Reality (XR), the creative potentials of AI and generative art and robotic art, and the transformative power of immersive art experiences. Furthermore, Art Dubai Digital 2024 embraces the “phygital” approach of current practitioners: not only digital but a blend of digital and physical, virtual and analogue, screen-based and spatial.

Art Dubai Digital 2024 is a celebration of human creativity, an ode to our unending pursuit of knowledge, and a testament to the boundless potential of the human spirit. As the curators say: “We expand art and we expand ourselves.”
