The summit main event discussed how these institutional entities navigate the challenges and opportunities presented by rapid technological changes in society, both in traditional art spaces and in innovative, purpose-built environments.

Alfredo Cramerotti’s Talk and Panel Chairing of the Summit Main Event – Institutional Agility: Navigating Rapid Technological Changes in Society

Explore the critical role of institutions in adapting to the digital era, focusing on their strategies for curating, preserving, and showcasing transformative digital mediums. This talk will discuss how these entities navigate the challenges and opportunities presented by rapid technological changes in society, both in traditional art spaces and in innovative, purpose-built environments.

The talk focused on the following points, developed by Alfredo Cramerotti and discussed among the panelists:

1. Evolution of institutions
How institutions, both traditional and innovative, have evolved to adapt to the digital era. A response from each of you to highlight the challenges they face in - for instance - preserving and curating digital media, how they have developed strategies to overcome these obstacles, etc.

2. Navigating technological changes
Building on the previous point, how can institutions navigate the rapid pace of technological change - strategies to stay relevant and engage with audiences in an increasingly digital world.

3. New approaches to curation
What are the curatorial challenges that institutions face in ensuring the longevity and accessibility of arts + advanced technologies formats, not only technically but also engagement-wise, how are they addressing these ‘curatorial scholarship’ issues?

4. Innovative environments
What is your respective take on the emergence of purpose-built environments for digital art and the unique challenges and opportunities they present? Are these spaces redefining the relationship between art, technology, aesthetics and the audience, or are they unraveling this relationship?

5. The future of digital art, institutionally
To conclude, I’d like to ask your respective opinion on the future of digital art in general, and the role institutions will play in shaping its trajectory in particular. We touched upon this point at the start of this panel, but can we speculate a bit on what will be significantly different from now?
