The KUMHO Museum of Art in Seoul presents WATERSCAPES: The Politics of Water, an exhibition that proposes an examination of the multifaceted subject of water in its significance to the increasing global concerns over issues such as: reduced access to drinking water; corporate control of public water system and unequal distribution of water; the so-called developed countries' exploitation of water of the Third World; the role of water as an object of conflict and in the definition of territory, borders and national statehood; and the evident intensification of water-generated disasters in the past decade. As part of this exhibition, the art collaborative WHITE CHAMBER PROJECT presents OUTFLOW, a series of videos and films that address the crisis of water facing the world today.

This presentation recasts a selection of work originally presented within the  Maldives Pavilion  of the 55th Venice Biennale (curated by  Chamber of Public Secrets - Khaled Ramadan, Alfredo Cramerotti, Aida Eltorie ), a far-reaching project whose ecological approach produced a series of environmental investigations by artists and thinkers from around the world that brought attention to the crisis of this archipelago's disappearance as a result of the rise in sea levels.

In OUTFLOW, the curators reframe this presentation with new works, proposing a collection of projects from eight international artists related specifically to water and the critical issues, concerns, and concepts that originate from this source.  These short films and documentaries address a variety of current debates: environmental politics, climate change regulations, the notion of nation-state as defined by international sea laws, the process of preservation, environmental events related to social and cultural life, and also to the fundamental essence of water as a metaphor of the human spirit will to bring about change.

OUTFLOW is presented by  Khaled Ramadan  (LB), appointed curator of the Maldives Pavilion, and co-curator Melina Nicolaides  (CY/USA), as founders of a new branch of the Chamber of Public Secrets: the art collaborative  WHITE CHAMBER PROJECT. With this first initiative, WCP presents a collection of thoughts on water, of past and future, aiming to show how nature can be seen as a set of environmental ethics within which people may become more physically conscious of the world.  Their proposal is firmly positioned behind the belief that the element of Water holds not only a dynamic and essential place in nature that must be safeguarded, but that it can also be considered as a compelling motivation for processes of change at this acutely critical moment for our environment. WCP is based out of the island of Cyprus in the Eastern Mediterranean.  Following its presentation at the Kumho, the Waterscapes exhibition will continue to the second leg of its tour, the Pohang Museum of Steel Art, in Pohang, S. Korea from the 15th of January to the 29th of March, 2015.
