MOSTYN | Jane Joseph: ETCHINGS FOR PRIMO LEVI [institutional leadership]

MOSTYN | Jane Joseph: ETCHINGS FOR PRIMO LEVI [institutional leadership]

19 Jan 2012 – 11 Mar 2012
This exhibition presents two unique sets of etchings inspired by the life and work of Primo Levi. If This is a Man, Levi's autobiographical account of the year he spent imprisoned at Auschwitz is now considered to be equally important as a record of the Holocaust and as a masterpiece of European literature of the 20th century.

Details of Exhibition

Inspired by both the over-riding spirit of hopefulness in Levi's writing and the clarity of his testament, these works align a closely fought struggle for a viable image with perhaps the hardest of subject matter. Holocaust Memorial Day 2012 is on the 27th of January. Small in scale, the images are as diverse in ideas as they are in the use of the etching medium; many have been drawn directly from observation onto the plate.  Examples of Jane Joseph's work are held in many public collections including the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford; British Museum; Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge; Imperial College, London; Lindley Library (RHS), London; Yale Center for British Art, USA and the Herbarium Library of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, London.
